Following Mark Zuckerberg's announcement of his Metaverse project, a virtual universe in which we can interact, live and own property, the creation and sale of NTFs is growing rapidly. This market is expanding worldwide and new types of NTF are emerging.
For many people, the notion of the Metaverse is still not very concrete. Not for the city of Cannes, which is investing massively in this new 'immaterial' sector and is making great strides in the NFT market.
Cannes allows the public to acquire its heritage in the form of a 3D representation (NFT) during an auction.

Ten Cannes landmarks, including La Croisette, the Palais des Festivals, the Ile St Marguerite, the Jason Decaires Taylor Marine Ecomuseum, the Malmaison, the Old Port, the Forville Market, the Suquet, the Pointe Croisette and the Georges Méliès Campus, will be up for sale at an auction to be held from 20 to 24 June to coincide with the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.
"Purchasers will receive a 3D reproduction of the Cannes site," says Cannes Town Hall, which points out that this operation is a European first.
The aim of this operation is to "promote its heritage beyond all borders and position itself on an innovative market (...), a source of attractiveness, influence and wealth", explains Mayor David Lisnard. The project is run by Pertimm, a Cannes-based company specialising in artificial intelligence. Profits from sales will be donated to Cannes Town Hall, with 10% going to the Cannes donation fund that finances environmental initiatives.
These NFTs will be certified and purchasers will be issued with a forgery-proof certificate of ownership to be integrated into the Metaverse of their choice.
